My career officially began when I had finally graduated from college, worked through the beginner or starter jobs in an office environment, continued my education, particularly with technology, and eventually earned the position of Project Manager. I was doing great!
I raised my daughter in a very comfortable home on the West Coast. What I’m trying to say is, she was spoiled.
It was okay though. She turned out great and is now Head of Operations for a multi-million dollar a year company, which she also happened to build from the ground up.
Needless to say, business runs in our blood. We’re naturals at it and we love it.
I simply became burned out. I didn’t feel as though I was living my true passion or full potential and, once my daughter left home and I became an empty nester, I had to redefine everything I was. I realized, I didn’t even know me unless I identified with being a full time Mom.
I discovered that my career was just a means to an end. I was very proud of what I had accomplished but it certainly wasn’t my passion.
Oh and how those who love me wanted to help me. They saw my skills and felt that they shouldn’t be ‘wasted’ by me exploring a total change in direction for my life and career.
They truly believed they were being supportive. They were not. They meant to be but they just did more damage than good.
